A Hopkins homeowner lost gas and hot water after CenterPoint found basement leaks. How Lucky Dog had a plumber there in an hour and got gas restored the same day.
A Hopkins homeowner called us around noon on a Friday. CenterPoint Energy had shut off their natural gas the day before for safety reasons due to leaks they’d discovered, and they’d been without gas or hot water for about 24 hours. With the weekend coming, they knew finding a plumber would only get harder.
By that evening, the leaks were fixed and CenterPoint was on its way to turn the gas back on.
CenterPoint had come out to replace the home’s gas meter. While they were there, they found leaks in the gas piping in the basement and shut off service until the leaks were repaired.
The house was built in the 1950s. Like a lot of homes from that era in Hopkins and the surrounding western suburbs, it still had original valves and fittings on the gas line, and several of them had started to leak.
That left the homeowners with no hot water, no gas appliances, and a gas repair that isn’t a DIY job.
The homeowners were glad to have it done quickly, and gladder not to spend the weekend without hot water.
For homeowners, plumbing problems aren’t just about pipes and fittings. They’re about being able to shower, cook, do laundry, and go about everyday life. A gas shutoff on a Thursday can easily turn into a cold weekend if nobody can get out until Monday.
Our goal is to get to customers within 24 hours. In practice, we can often be there within one to four hours, like we were here.
Don’t try to find or fix the leak yourself. Leave the house, then call CenterPoint Energy’s emergency line or 911 from outside. Don’t flip light switches or use anything that could make a spark on your way out. Once the gas company has made it safe and identified the problem, call a licensed plumber to make the repair.
Lucky Dog Sewer & Drain provides responsive plumbing repairs throughout Hopkins, Minnetonka, Edina, St. Louis Park, and the surrounding West Metro, including gas line and valve repairs after a utility shutoff.
