An old or failing water meter can leak, misread your usage, or need swapping out at the city’s request. Our licensed plumbers replace it cleanly, correctly, and up to code.
Water meters do not last forever. An aging unit can develop a slow leak, stop reading your usage accurately, or simply reach the end of its service life. In many cases the city asks a homeowner to have the meter replaced or upgraded, and that work falls on the property owner. Our team handles the replacement, makes the connections properly, and coordinates with your city’s requirements so it is done right.

What makes water meter jobs tricky
In most West Metro cities the meter belongs to the city, but the valves on either side of it are the homeowner's, and those valves are what fail.
- A city-side valve that won't close. The handle turns, but water keeps flowing. That valve can't be replaced until the city shuts the water off at the curb stop, so we coordinate the shutoff and the work for the same visit.
- Old gate valves. We replace them with ball valves that close with a quarter turn.
- Rusted steel fittings. On one Maple Grove meter the fix called for swapping corroded steel nipples and tees for brass and adding a union, so the meter comes out cleanly next time.
- Meters that don't meet today's code. In Minnetonka we did a code-compliant meter valve replacement and added a frost-free spigot in the same visit. Some meters sit in spaces too tight or too low to raise to code; we'll tell you what can and can't change before we start.
