Here's what it reveals and why it matters.

What the camera actually shows

Pushed from a cleanout through the main line and out to the city connection, the camera reveals:

Blockage type: whether the clog is roots, grease, scale, or a foreign object; each calls for a different fix

Cracks and breaks: places where the pipe wall has failed

Bellies: low spots where the line sags and pools water, causing repeat clogs

Offset joints: sections that have shifted apart over time

Root intrusion: where and how badly roots have entered, and through which joints

Pipe material and condition: clay, cast iron, or PVC, and how much life is left

Many cameras also locate the depth and position of a problem from the surface, so if a repair is needed, the crew knows exactly where to dig instead of trenching your whole yard.

When you should get one

Recurring backups. If a line keeps clogging, a scope finds the underlying cause instead of treating the symptom again.

Before buying or selling an older home. A standard home inspection skips the sewer line; a scope closes that gap.

After a main line cleaning. Seeing the line clear confirms that the job is done and establishes a baseline that can be reference in the future.
